Kranshoek is a Griqua settlement near Plettenberg Bay, home to around 5,000 people. Twelve of them knit for The Gogo Trust, at a community day centre called Sonop.

The community

Kranshoek is a Griqua settlement near Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape. About 5,000 people live there.

It is one of the two Gogo Trust knitting circles working today.

The Sonop Centre

Sonop opened in 2000/2001 as a day centre for Kranshoek residents living with disabilities.

Three organisations run it together: Epilepsy South Africa, Mental Health and Child Welfare.

Around 24 people attend the centre every day.

Our gogos at Sonop

The Kranshoek knitting circle meets at Sonop. Twelve women hand-knit the beanies and scarves that The Gogo Trust ships from this community.

This is not a charity. Our gogos worked for their money.
